Dawes in Winter

Located about 30 miles east of Columbus, Dawes Arboretum always represents a wonderful photographic location. It doesn’t matter the time of the year, the weather or anything else, there’s nearly always something that sparks the imagination.img_3817_Painting

Call it stir crazy or something else, but sitting inside gets boring after a while. This was one of those cases. The actual temperature this  January day was around minus 3.  Despite freezing my butt off, this was a good day for shooting. Snow lay everywhere. The sky was a crisp clear blue. The green evergreens popped in the wintery sun. Several of my favorite prints came out of this day’s shooting.

The tree above is at the top of the hill above the Dawes Arboretum hedge lettering and just below the overlook tower. There was no one there this day. It was too cold.

Post processing for this image was in Corel Painter.

Reid State Park

Reid State Park

My colleague Brent and I were on a business trip to Augusta, Maine, and were flying out of Portland.

We had a couple of hours to kill before our flights, and the closest beach was at Reid State Park. It felt rather weird to walk along the beach in a business suit and dress shoes, but the beach was wonderful, and it was a worthwhile side trip.

Reid State Park in Georgetown, Maine has two beautiful sand beaches: Mile and Half Mile Beaches. These beaches are located in the mid-coast region of Maine between the mouths of the Kennebec and Sheepscot Rivers. Both beaches are very linear, face southeast into the Gulf of Maine, and receive large surf. This image is from Half Mile Beach.

The Alamo

The Alamo

It was hot that June day as it often is in Texas. It was my first time to San Antonio, a delightful city with an amazing downtown and River Walk.
Not far from the River Walk, of course, is the Alamo. It took a little while for the crowds to clear on that warm day, but eventually I was able to make this image.
