The Longaberger Basket

img_2772

The Longaberger Company headquarters is a basket, arising on the east side of Newark, Ohio.

As a long-time Newark resident, it was always amusing to watch visitors heading east on State Route 16 east of downtown. You can’t actually see the basket until you top a crest on the expressway and there it is. Experienced local drivers know to watch for brakelights as visitors try to figure out this big basket looming on the edge of town.

Getting an interesting image of the basket isn’t as easy as it sounds. While it’s tucked away along the side of an expressway, trees and traffic obscure much of the view.

Playing the Saxophone

IMG_0075

Several years back, I bought a saxophone at a yard sale. It was old and beat up. The case smelled like mildew, and I really had no idea what I was going to do with it. I don’t play the sax.

But the price was right.

So I dragged it home and set about photographing it.  It was a good undertaking. I spent a lot of time learning  how to control reflections and making the most out of light. Close-ups, low-light, you name it, I tried it.

I know I didn’t master all that I could have, but after a couple of years, I sold that sax at my own garage sale for the same money I paid for it. It was a successful transaction.

Kirby charges on

His name is Kirby. It’s appropriate, he vacuums up everything on the floor. Cat hair, dirt, you name it, it goes in.

He loves to play. This squeaky green toy is one of his favorites. Here he’s racing from one end of the hallway to another showing everyone what he has that you can’t have.
